Suriya organizes surprise bash for Santosh Sivan

Actor Suriya recently threw a surprise bash for Santosh Sivan in Mumbai to celebrate the news about the cinematographer being awarded the Padma Shri. We hear that Santosh had no clue about the plan until he landed at the party, which was attended by top film celebrities, including Shruti Haasan, Madhavan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Prabhudheva and Samantha. Of course, the entire team of Anjaan, which is currently being shot, was also present at the do.
Santosh Sivan tells us, “After we wrapped up the day’s shoot, the team called me to hunt for a few locations for the film’s next schedule. I told them that I was tired and would look into it later. But, they compelled me to take a look for a couple of spots and so I went with them. We went to a place first but director Lingusamy said that he didn’t like it. At that juncture, I had no clue about what they’d planned. Then they took me to a hotel where I saw Suriya and the entire crew waiting for me. The best part of the party was the surprise element — I really didn’t know how and when Suriya planned it, as I was very much around him during the shoot. That was just cool!”
The actor also organized a special dance show for the ace cinematographer. He adds, “They performed some of the hit songs from my films and I enjoyed all of them, especially Chaiyya Chaiyya. I can’t thank Suriya enough for this surprise.”

Kamal Haasan in Tamil remake of Drishyam?

Kamal might reprise Mohanlal’s role in Tamil remake of Drishyam
Ever since the Malayalam Mohanlal—Meena starrer Drishyam did wondersat the box office, besides winning critical acclaim, the film has been in the news, particularly since there has been a huge demand for its remake rights. Finally suresh balaji had grabbed its tamil, telugu and hindi remake rights. Many stars, including Chiyaan Vikram, showed a keen interest in doing Tamil and Telugu versions. Later, veteran actress Sripriya, who re-entered as a director with Malini 22 Palayamkottai, confirmed that she would be doing the Telugu version with T’town actor, Venkatesh reprising Mohanlal’s role.
Now, the latest speculation is that ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan will be seen in the Tamil and Hindi remakes of Drishyam, essaying Lalettan’s role, Georgekutty. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the movie is a thriller and kamal Haasan will be seen playing the father of two teenage daughters. Apparently, Kamal’s adaptability to any kind of role  is common knowledge. However, when DC contacted suresh balaji, he said that nothing had been finalised yet as far as Tamil and Bollywood versions were concerned. “Kamal has watched the film and has liked it. We are talking to him. Nothing has been firmed up yet. And we approached him only for the Tamil remake. Hindi is altogether a different market and we plan to rope in a versatile Bollywood actor to play the lead. In a few day’s time, we will have a clear picture.” The probable names from B’town are Irrfan khan, Nana Patekar and Ajay Devgn.

Ramesh Aravind – Director and Actor

Directing Kamal Haasan
I had earlier done a kannada film with kamal sir, which was a box-office hit. Now, Uthama Villan is going to be my first with him in Tamil. I feel completely honoured to direct a versatile artiste like him. He educates me on various topics and has helped me understand the nuances of filmmaking.

Actor OR Director?
I would like to be both. Though the director is the creator, it’s actors who bridge the gap between him and the audience, so both are equally important, and I wish to do both roles with dedication.
IF NOT CINEMA
I am a qualified mechanical engineer and would have worked in any concern related to my undergraduate degree.
What Annoys You The Most In The Shooting Process?
I love my profession, nothing irrigates me. But what I dislike most is that many people who come into the field are neither professional nor true to their job. They are not well equipped with knowledge about what they do and are not passionate about their job.
INSPIRATION
K.Balachander, Balu Mahendra and Kamal Haasan inspire me.

deepika padukone to act in vijay’s next film ?

vijay’s not just basking in the success of jilla, but getting ready to move on. Once again he has teamed up with A.R.Murugadoss, after their earlier blockbuster outing Thuppakki even ARM has confirmed it, and shooting is expected to start in February second week.
The real hot buzz, however is about vijay’s next. This will be directed by chimbu devan of imsai arasan 23am pulikesi. The makers of Thalapathy the fantasy entertainer have approached none other than the bollywood hottie Deepika Padukone for Thalapathy’s screen romantic pair. It is no secret that though many filmmakers have earlier attempted to lure the Chennai express girl to K’town, only soundarya Ashwin was successful for her maiden directional venture Kochadaiiyaan, which has her father Rajinikanth in a dual role. Sources aver that, Deepika is choosy about her films when it comes to the south
One may recall soundarya’s earlier interviews, where she said, “when I first approached Deepika for Kochadaiiyaan, she was a little apprehensive and had several questions pertaining to the filming process, how the technology would work, and most importantly, how would she look ! once those questions were cleared, she was fully committed to the project.” Watch this space to more!

I asked him wheather he could be a part of the film, and the immediate response from him was ‘when and where should I come sir’. I was really bowled over by his simplicity and sincerity. When it comes to his screen presense. He is someone we can relate to and that is the reason for his success. I don’t have another reason why I chose him to essay this role in this experimental films says parthiban.

SANTOSH SIVAN Cinematographer, director

WINNING THE PADMA SRI
I’m delighted by the honour. This is indeed a great encouragement and calls for revamping myself.
A TIMELY HONOUR
I think the recognition was neither late nor early. These aren’t things which we can hunt down or chase after. I believe everything has its own time.
A HIGH END ANJAAN
The suriya linguswamy movie will feature a red dragon camera, poised to offer detailed and precise visuals. It is equipped with 6k resolution, providing ample scope to explore and experiment. Presently the crew is working in mumbai.
WORKING IN KOLLYWOOD
The positive attitude, friendly nature and loyalty at work are some of the things that I adore in kollywood. Be it actors like vijay or suriya, and the other crew whom I have worked with here, they are punctual. Moreover, concentrating on one project at a time is what I like about kollywood.
DONNING THE DIRECTOR’S CAP
I’m yet to finalise on details like language, casting etc. however, there are high chances of me helming a movie this year. Ceylon is another movie which  has me cranking the camera. I might kick off my directional venture after that.

Why did Udhay choose Nayan for Nanbaenda?

Even as his second outing, Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal, is to hit cinema halls, the producer turned actor Udhayanidhi  has repeated his on-screen pair, Nayanthara, in his next project, titled Nanbaenda. Apparently, the word Nan baenda was made popular by
comedian Santhanam in his earlier film, Boss Engira Bhaskaran, which had Arya and Nayan in the lead. And Udhay has also roped in Santhanam in Nanbaenda. Quiz Udhay on why Kajal Agarwal, who was initially intended to play opposite him, was replaced by Nayan, he says, "The script by Jagadeesh had several changes and we felt that Nayanthara would be apt for the meaty heroine character" He adds, "At the same time, we were cautious that the new film had a fresh look since all three of us were coming together again." On his role, he says, "So far you have seen me in ordinary boy-next-door roles. In Nanbaenda, I play a belligerent guy. You will see a totally new Udhay."

That vemal and priya anand are coming together for director kannan’s movie is a known fact. Kannan, who earlier had the option of calling the family entertainer sakkarai, has now settled for an interesting title, oru oorula rendu raja. “now that soori has also joined the cast with vemal for a crucial role, we felt that oru oorula rendu raja would be more apt as a title than sakkarai,” says kannan. He adds that though he has given a bound script to all three lead artistes, vemal, soori and priya have still been taking time to rehearse over the last few days. “it is a travel story happening on a train. Despite their busy work schedules all three allocate few hours for rehearsals. Iam happy about it,” he muses. While Michael rayappan is producing the film, imman is composing the music.

The actor has approved it and asked the director to flesh it out. Director PT Selvakumar and Kerala-based distributor Shibu will jointly produce the film. Samantha to romance Vijay soon?

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is going places in Kollywood. The pretty actress who was writ-ten off in Tamil after a lacklustre start, migrated to Tollywood, and thanks to her mentor Gautham Menon's film, Ye Maaya Chesave, her career was catapulted to new heights. She has been a sought after actress since then in T'town. When her much expected 2012 Tamil film, Neethaane En Ponva santham, with  Gautham, failed to make a mark at the box-office, the svelte girl found her calling in Telugu, having almost had six hits under her belt in the course of two years. Her charming pres-ence had her roped in by Lingusamy for Anjaan along-side Suriya. Now, the major piece of news is that the Naan Ee actress is the first choice of Murugadoss for his upcoming flick with Ilayathalapathy Vijay. Vijay and ARM are team-
ing up for the second time after their blockbuster, Thuppakki, which put the former in the elite 100 crore club. If sources are to be believed, Sam has been approached by ARM for the new film since the heroine also has a solid role in it and the latter hopes that she would fit the bill. Presently, Vijay is basking in the success of Jilla and Sam is shooting for Suriya's Anjaan. ARM is in the wrap-up of his Bollywood film, Holiday, with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, which is a remake of Thuppakki.

Bindu's new look

Bindu Madhavi to sport an urban, tomboyish look in her next film, Oru Kannt:yum Moonru Kalavaanigalum
Bindu Madhavi is one person who doesn't hesitate to take up challenging roles. They keep her busy as she is already shooting for more than two projects. In her previous flicks, Bindu portrayed the role of a vil-lage girl on screen, and it was received well by the audi-ence. But now, she will be seen in a completely new look vis-I-vis her previous films, as she plays an urban, tomboy-ish kind of a role in her next flick, Oru Kannityum Moonru Kalavaani galum, star-ring opposite Arulnidhi, who was last seen in Thagararu. When asked about the film, she says, "It's a romantic comedy
flick, and for the first time I am on screen in a very different out-fit. I am excited to see myself on big screens. Though people liked me as a village girl, at one point of time I thought that I must experiment with new roles and give myself a new look. I have done exactly that in this film," she says. 'Also, Arulnidhi was really sweet during the shoot. Though he hails from a political background, he doesn't have any ego or pride about it. He is a very down-to-earth person and a good performer on screen." The film is directed by Chimbu Devan. Bhagavathi Perumal, who played a prominent role in Nadula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, plays a major role in this film too. Bindu is currently busy shoot-ing for her next flick, Kalakura Mappulay, and Tam izhil Pesa En Orzdrat Azhuthavum, in which she pairs opposite Attakathi Dinesh.
In her previous flicks, Bindu portrayed the role of a village girl and it was received well by the audience. But now, she will be seen in a completely new look vis-a-vis her previous films

Director Kasturi Raja, the proud father of actor Dhanush and filmmaker Selvaraghavan, is back to wielding the mega-phone after a long hiatus for a film, titled Kaasu Panam Dhuttu. Apparently, the title is inspired by lines from a chart-buster from the super hit film, Soodhu Kavvum. The audio launch of KPD that took place recently looked more like a family affair with Selva, Dhanush, with wife Aishwarya, and Kasturi Raja's wife, Vijayalakshmi, gracing the occasion. Raja, the producer/director, said at the event, "Both my sons are at a high level today. They are asking me to retire and go on a fun trip to Switzerland or London with my wife and enjoy life. But I feel as if I am a new-comer today and I am in awe of all the new talents who are rocking the Tamil industry now. When I came to cinema several years back, I had a holy book and the major responsibil-ity of raising my family. When I discharged all my duties as a dad, my book got misplaced. I am in search of it now" Dhanush, attired in his signa-ture dhoti, said, "This is the first time I am attending a function to do with a film of m y father's. He need not be dis-mayed, the holy book was picked up by me and my anna, Selva, and we have grown up now. He can relax. He asked me to sing a song for KPD which I couldn't do due to work pressure. I sug-gested that there were umpteen talented new singers whom he could introduce."

A SONG WITH PUNCH DIALOGUES

Its time for the wedding season in K'town as the Tamil remake of Band Baaja Baraat, titled Aaha Kalyanam, is all set to release. This Tamil-Telugu bilingual flick is directed by Gokul Krishna and pro-duced by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj films. The single track in the film called Thala Thala has already become a hit among movie buffs as it's a completely new and different attempt at music in Tamil cinema. Music composer Dharan understood the pulse of the audience well. The song has famous punch dia-logues from most Tamil films from the past several years, and it's been penned in such a way that all the dialogues, taken together, make sense. Some of the dialogues used in this song are, Vaada en machi vaazhaka bhajji and Na oru thadava sonna nooru thadava sonna-maari. When asked, composer Dharan says, "It's a completely commercial song, and a very different attempt at song writing in Tamil cinema. The famous punch dialogues are penned as a
song, and it's going to grab the attention of most youngsters. Madan Karky, the lyricist, has executed it in a brilliant way. There are totally seven songs in this film. Since the film is all about marriage, I have composed more than five songs in a very traditional style of music. I am sure the album will do well."

Raja is an expert photographer and his passion was evident when some of the photos taken by him was on view at a recent exhibition of his works, titled Naan Paarthapadi, at the Art Houz Gallery in the city. who has recovered from his ill health, unveiled his works and interacted with the press at the gathering. Having started this hobby in 1978 and taken more than 5,000 pictures in various genres, Raja says he didn't hunt for these snapshots as he didn't have the time for that. "All these pictures were taken only during my travelling time. I love to take pictures of nature," he says. The ace composer reveals that whenever a new camera is introduced in the market, the next moment he is keen to pos-sess it. "Those were differ-ent times, and after every-thing became digital, I stopped taking pictures," he says. Reacting to a query whether anyone was criti-cal of his hobby, he says with a smile, "Did anyone ask me why I am compos-ing music. The same thing is applicable here. I just
pursued my passion." Among the still photogra-phers, he says Raghu Rai is his favourite, and in films, he adores P.C. Sriram and Balu Mahendra's works. "Balu and PC have appreci-ated my love for the art," he says. The Padma Bhushan awardee has strong opin-ions on how photos or movies taken on a film roll is more of a challenging task than digital photogra-phy. "When you develop the negatives from a film roll, the depth and output of the pictures are superb. This is lacking in the digital format. What can one do? All good things are being destroyed." Asked if he yearns to take pictures of any particular actor/actresses or a popular leader, pat he replies, "No, I don't like to take such pictures." Quiz him if he would extend his  hobby 4 a n d turn,cine-matog-rapher, and he laughs , loudly, "Oh no! I. That's not my cup of tea. What I
know in my life is only music." Has any particular pic-ture disturbed him? "Many! More than that, I have missed out on many true moments to capture with my camera. I took a picture of a girl who was crying on the road in Bengaluru. I finished tak-ing the picture quickly and looked around for her to give her some money, and she was missing, she was nowhere to be seen," he says. The exhibi-tion which start-ed on January 15 is on till January 22. Plans are on to hold it in Kovai and also abroad, in cities, such as Singapore, Dubai and London.

SIMBU’S VAALU SINGLE HAS A MENTION OF NAYAN

Buzz is that, a single track from Vaalu, which has music composed by Thaman, will release on Simbu’s birthday (February 3). You Are My darling, which is sung by the composer himself and penned by Madhan Karky, is said to be a fast-paced romantic number. We hear that the song has a special mention about a few girls the actor has been linked up with so far.
A source close to the unit says, “The song will have the names of people whom Simbu has been linked up with. The lines go like he doesn’t want all these people (Nayanthara vendam, Andrea vendam) but only wants the heroine, who is his love interest in this film (interestingly, it is played by Hansika). The song also has names of leading directors like Mani Ratnam, Bala and Shankar.”
Lyricist Madhan Karky says, “This particular song was a great responsibility on my shoulders as it was originally supposed to be written by Vaali sir. You Are My Darling is the hook line of the song, but the song actually starts with the words Inky Pinky Ponky.”
Thaman confirms the single track release and says, “It will be a treat for Simbu’s fans on his birthday,” and adds that the film’s album will be released on Valentine’s Day.

Ravi and Nayan film shifts to Bengaluru

The first schedule of the shooting of Jayam Ravi's new untitled film, directed by his brother, Jayam Raja, is over at Binny Mills, Chennai, and the unit has shifted to Bengaluru for their next round. Interestingly, Ravi and Nayan are coming together.
for the first time, and the grapevine has it that both the lead actors are playing IPS officers. A lit-tle birdie informs us that Nayan will be seen clad in khaki for the first time in her career in the mega budget flick, produced by AGS Entertainment. Ravi also portrays a tough cop in it. The new gun-toting action avatar for Nayan has created a lot of buzz in tinsel town. The present schedule is being held in the outskirts of Bengaluru at a police
training college where important scenes are being canned by Raja. Joining them is Ganesh Venkatraman who plays a key role in the movie. Though Raja has made remakes in the past, this action thriller is said be a straight and a fresh one, and he says it is an experi-mental script. Yet another source says that Ravi is shooting in Bengaluru after a long gap, his earlier films being Deepavali and Idhaya Thirudan.

Bala's second innings in Tamil, thanks to Ajith

 http://www.sivakasinews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/ajith-actor-bala-veeram-shooting-spot-1.jpg
Actor Bala is on cloud nine, the reason being the Ajith-starrer, the Siva-direct-ed Veeram, where he plays the younger brother of Thala has brought him back to the limelight in Tamil cinema. Not many know that he is the younger brother of director Siva in real life. Bala is not a newcomer to Kollywood. He debuted with Anbu a decade ago, continued to act in a few movies, including Kadhal Kisu Kisu, Manjal Veyyil but vanished from the scene as the films turned out to be duds. Later, Mollywood beckoned, and today, he is popular star in Malayalam with 40 films to his credit, having acted with the likes of Mammootty, Mohanlal, Prithiviraj, Suresh Gopi etc. He has even tried his hand at direction successfully with a movie, The Hit List. Sharing his experiences of working with Ajith, the actor says animatedly, "I can speak volumes. I have not come across a person like Ajith sir in my life. I was touched by his humaneness. The days I spent with him dur-ing the shoot were unforgettable. In fact, he called all the screen brothers five days prior to the shoot to Hyderabad and said, 'we are all playing brothers in Veeram. So, let's move closely for the next few days so that our chem-istry gets translated on to the screen with real emotions'. He had so much commitment!" Bala was all praise for Ajith's culinary talents as well. "Ajith sir is a great cook. He made awesome chicken biryani and fish fry for all of us". — AS
